Stuffed Animal Obstacle Course

Age: Pre-K - 2nd Grade

Purpose: A child's gross motor skills are a highly important part of a child's physical growth in strength. There are many simple ways you can work on gross motor skills. This obstacle course is a simple fun way to do it.

Supplies:
- 8-10 Small/medium free-standing item (paint bottle, water bottles, solo cups)
- 5-10 stuffed animals (depends on how many times you want them to go through it)
- Storage bin (optional)

Description: Put each free-standing item 15-20inches apart in a straight line. At the end of the straight line put the pile of stuffed animals about two feet or so from the last item. At the other end of the line where they would start, you can put a bin for them to drop the stuffed animals (about three feet away from the first item). Have your child start by bear crawling (crawling on hands and feet w/ bottom in the air) over the items trying not to knock over any of the items. When they get to the end, they take one stuffed animal and weave in and out of the items all the way back and drop it in the bin or on the floor. Repeat this until there are no more stuffed animals left.

To make it more challenging you can try the following ways:
Speed - Time them to see how fast they can do it
Accuracy - See how many times they can do it before they knock an item over
Exercise - Change from bear walk to crab walking or tip toeing
Quantity - Add more stuffed animals

Enjoy the game and the laughter!
